Hummer babies

A friend (thank you Deidre) sent me a link to a web cam for an Allen's hummingbird nest located in Southern California.  Here is a snapshot of the babies in the nest.  They don't stay in the nest all that long so be sure to look soon.  I love how they know how to poop out of the nest even when they are so young.

The picture is magnified, the better to see it.   But look how tiny the mama actually is!

The web cam site has some other pages with information about the nest and the camera and the history.  Apparently this web cam has been around for many other nesting times.

Here is a good site for more information on  baby hummingbird development..
