Yachats in September

The ocean along the 804 trail.  More of the 804 trail below. 

We stopped at the Beazell Memorial Forest to stretch our legs.

We had lunch in Newport at Local Ocean Seafood.  They were getting their fish delivery.  Note the fish in midair, on it way from the truck to the big bucket.

Cleaning the roof with Dave and Nancy

We helped our friends Dave and Nancy clean the roof on their cabin.   The goal was to clean the roof without a ladder.

Dave threw a tennis ball tied to fishing line over the roof .

Then a (too long) rope was tied to the fishing line and pulled over.

And the double broom thing they made was attached and pulled up.

The rope was pulled back and forth to sweep the roof.

Dave and Nancy got the buggy uneven side.

Nancy and I went for a walk.  It was so quiet there.

Dream Date Hike Ecola State Park

Last week we drove to Ecola State Park just north of Cannon Beach.  John needed some sea air.

Those are surfers in wet suits at Indian Beach.  Surfing is pretty good in Oregon but the water is cold.

 Our hike took us along Tillamook head with a view of the old Tillamook lighthouse known as Terrible Tillie.  It was very treachorous to build and take care of.  In storms the waves often go over the top of the lighthouse and sometimes the water would extinguish the light.

But we were there on a pretty calm day.

 This is the road inside Ecola State Park.

The traffic was pretty bad when we got close to Portland even on a Tuesday.  The traffic is getting worse and worse in Portland.

John's birthday trip to the coast

We went to the coast for John's birthday.  We had a wonderful time.  Although we loved it, everyone wouldn't.  It's a rocky place with no beach and very dangerous for children.  There are more posts before this one if you missed them and are interested.

Happy Birthday John!  This was taken at the Underground Pub in Yachats.  The food was good.   We enjoyed the locals who hang out there.   They were having a good time, too.

This was my favorite thing to watch.  The water rushes in to this crevice splashing wildly and smashing into the end and coming up out of the blow hole.  Ahhh....

I always bring quilts and pillows for color and comfort.   This is only a few of the ones I took.

My eyes saw more detail than my camera but still I like it.

Edit:  My friend Dave pointed out that the photo above has a crooked horizon as do many of my ocean photos.  I was trying to catch the waves at the right time (I did not succeed all the time).    Sorry about that.  It drives me a little crazy now that he pointed it out.  But the crooked horizon adds to the chaos of the waves so I am sticking with it....

Trail 804

I think we walked all of the 804 trail but not all at once.   Some of my post Walking in Yachats has photos from the section of the trail with visible houses.  This is the part between Smelt Sands State Park walling north to the end onto a nice beach but not a huge beach like Tillicum which is further north.

This section of the 804 trail has a different kind of rock which is smoother.  I suggest this site for more information and photos of the trail.

It was a misty day and it was beautiful out there.
