Kitchen Island progress

Here is one of the two cabinet cases that will become our island.  There will be two of these placed back to back.  They are both done.  He is working on the side panels now.  The sides will have beadboard with another small set of drawers between the two cabinets.

The drawer boxes are next.

I am getting excited!

Peonies, day 2

Peonies, day 5

A friend was kind enough to bring us these.  How lucky are we!  They have been beautiful and also smell divine.

Fountain in May

This is the fountain in May.  April's flowers have been replaced or supplemented.  Ah, the beauty of pots!  I am delighted that the birds are using the fountain and the hummingbirds have found all the flowers.  I love watching the hummingbirds collect nectar.... and I love watching the birds drinking and bathing in the fountain/birdbath.

Hiking on the Siouxon Creek Trail

We went hiking at Siouxon Creek this week.  It's about an hour and a half from here... half an hour from our house in Portland till we get off the free way, half an hour going through Battleground (seems like ugly urban sprawl to me), and half an hour driving on US Forest Service Roads  (beautiful but not great roads).  The hike is lovely.  It follows the creek and what a creek!  The water is high because we had a lot of moisture this year.

If you want to see more of our hike, click on this link.

Slice and Dice... my way

I love how this technique mixes the prints and the sizes you see of the print.  These are Liberty prints and I just have a tiny amount (one 5 inch square) of each one  So I decided to try mixing them together like this and using a black fabric... sort of ala Amish.  There are so many mixings going on here!  First you make a four patch and turn it into a nine patch and the sizes and the fabrics get mixed, too.  It is so cool.  I could have mixed them even more.  Next block...

New Quilt from old quilt

I made a new center for my old quilt.  Well, it didn't start out that way.  It wasn't my plan but it IS what I did.
