Spring garden photos

A child's fairyland

This fairy playland is close by my house and I walk by it often.  It makes me want to stop and join in the play but the child is never there when I am...

The door to summer

Yesterday it was over sixty and balmy, which is gloriously warm  for March.  We spent a fair amount of time on the front porch basking in the sun like lizards.  It was warm enough to open the door and let the cats enjoy the door to summer.  That's John sweeping the front stairs.

We also managed a little gardening.  This is the corylopsis pauciflora, which is glorious right now.

And here is the pieris japaonica

A house on my walk...

And Portland Nursery, brimming with plants.

A bit of Oregon

Be sure you click on the link and read the story.... this makes me want to go for a drive out that way.  Been more than a while since we did.

Nineteen years in Portland

It's been nineteen years since we first came to Portland.  We left Massachusetts in a terrible ice storm and arrived to spring in Portland.  I remember the drive from the airport, with the smell of spring in the air and flowers already in bloom.  It was love at first sight for us both and we are still in love with Portland.

We weren't so sure about living in the city with the houses so close together; it looked to us like they were in storage, waiting to be moved to a yard.... now it seems perfectly normal.  Our yard is tiny and there does come a point in spring when I want more garden.   The rest of the time, it's plenty of yard.

Now that we are mostly retired, living here is even better.  We do what the weather invites...going for walks, sitting on the porch, gardening, doing projects, reading.  Yesterday we did all of those things.  What a great day it was!  Life is good.

But we do still miss our friends in Massachusetts...

Garden early March

Out and about on foot today

It was a great day for a walk.  We went to two wine shops and back to Burrasca food cart where we shared pasta with wild boar sauce (yum).  Here is some of what we saw and enjoyed along the way.
